The Beginning

My journey with dogs began in high school, traveling to shows with our family’s Standard Poodle breeder. Everything changed the moment I saw my first Saluki. I was instantly captivated—not just by their breathtaking beauty, but by their uniquely aloof and dignified spirit.

Driven to learn more, I embarked on a five-year journey of discovery that led me to my very first Saluki in 1987. That was the beginning of a love affair with the breed that continues to this day.

My dogs are treasured members of the family, their happiness, as well as their mental and physical health, is paramount. They are true house dogs; in fact, when designing our home, much of the layout was driven by how we would live together comfortably.

Throughout the years, there have been many highlights: Best in Show wins, Group winners, Specialty Show winners, and Top 5 Salukis. While these are all wonderful memories, none are as satisfying as our daily walks along the New Jersey coast or watching them run with heart and joy on a crisp fall day.

I’ve always believed that when something is meant to be, it comes to fruition. For years, I had pondered the perfect mate for Haney. One day, I took a screenshot of a dog that ended my search—but there was a problem: I had no idea who he was, only that he was outside of the United States.

I kept that image, hoping to one day solve the mystery. Surprisingly, that day finally came while chatting ringside with Eric Steel. When I mentioned the ‘mystery dog’ I’d been dreaming of breeding to Haney, Eric shared a photo of a dog he had recently awarded Best of Breed while judging in Sweden. It was the exact same handsome dog: Sharwassim Chawki.

The search was over! Eric arranged a meeting with Chawki’s owner, Erika Brolin, and I invited Eric to co-breed the litter. On March 8, 2022, Haney and Chawki welcomed six beautiful puppies into the world. I am proud to own or co-own four of them, featured below:

The one who started it all. After years of careful research and anticipation, Anneka finally brought the dream of owning a Saluki to life thanks to breeder Carol Comerford. She was the quintessential Saluki in both form and spirit, sparking a lifelong devotion to this ancient breed. Her quality was undeniable, finishing her championship with ease by taking majors under respected breeder-judges.
